According to most researchers name of the mountain derives from the old name of this area – Strajitsa (from the ancient Bulgarian Stranyts – border land). Strandja is not only a border land between two countries, but also border land for several different biospheres. It uniquely combines elements of Caucasian, Mediterranean and European nature.
